Twighlight
Sun leisurely sinks
Below the dark horizon
Rule of night begins
Encircling black silhouettes
Punctured by bright, glowing eyes

Wonderful drawings and poem.

Robbie, have you always drawn or did this magical gift suddenly manifest? I’ve been dying to ask you this question.

Hi Colleen, I did art at school until I was 13. Since then, I’ve never tried to draw. I actually only went to the art class because I was encouraging and supporting Michael.

This is beautiful, Robbie — and I really love your drawings. I’m pulling together a little blog feature for you as my weekend post. Do you mind if I use the giraffe drawing?
Hugs.

Wow, Robbie, the poem itself delves into our view of the night, but your drawings absolutely steal the show! The momma and nursing giraffe brought tears to my eyes! Do you have enough to share at a local gallery?

Hi Terri, thank you for your lovely comment. I hadn’t thought really of sharing my art at a gallery. I am putting some of them, including ‘giraffy’, into my new children’s book. This new series is aimed at teaching children about wildlife and conservation. It is intended to be realistic and not personify animals with human characteristics.

Thank you, Liz. That is exactly how it feels driving back to camp at night in the bush. A little creepy with those yellow eyes shining.

Dang, girl!! Your talent with drawing continues to blow me away. “Mysterious” is especially stunning, and I have often wondered what a hoopoe looks like. Now I know 🙂
I also really loved the poem, and had to read it a few times, just to soak up the images it evoked!
