I have taken a rather an expansive interpretation of Reena’s challenge this week. The prompt I chose is One of Us is Lying. You can join in here: https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2023/10/05/reenas-xploration-challenge-301/
My poem is a shadorma
Life lesson
We can learn
From animal friends
Deception
An unknown
Together they all sustain
The cycle of life
My husband and I have been away in the bush viewing animals. It was wonderful and we saw so many amazing animals. I love the way elephants look out for each other and their young. Here are a few pictures:

This behaviour of elephants looking out for each other is very apparent in this video. You can see the sentinels.
Beautiful poem and amazing pictures of amazing elephants!

Thank you, Vera. They really were so much fun to watch. I had the privilege of watching them outside my room for over two hours.

Amazing photos. It’s true that animals don’t know deception, unless it is a survival technique

Hi Dave, I am glad you liked this post. I really enjoyed watching the elephants. I was lucky. They spent the entire afternoon at the watering hole right in front of our room.

Hi da-AL, there is an abundance of African elephant in Southern Africa currently. It is rather a problem as they need so much food and do a lot of damage to the environment by uprooting the trees. The parks needs more land to accommodate them.

Yes, it is a space and resources issue

I love this! Robbie, you must check out the children’s book, Grandma Elephant’s In Charge by Martin Jenkins. The story is interspersed with elephant facts. It is my #1 elephant book to read to children. I bet you will learn something, too. Plus, the illustrations are wonderful.

Hi Wayne, the brownish reddish ones are covered in mud. The ground in red as you can see in these pictures. The spray the earth on themselves as protection from the sun and also from ticks.

HI Tim, absolutely, they are marvelous animals. I do like them but I treat them with respect as they can be very dangerous if angered.

Hi Mae, elephants are marvelous and I am very blessed to see them in the wild. I’m glad you like the poem. Given all the conflict in the world right now, humanity seems to have lost the plot entirely.
