Terri’s Sunday Stills prompt for this week is Peekaboo – Who sees you?
I manage to find a few fun photographs for this theme.

Short story on vocal: Magic mirrors and dancing lights

You can read my short story about King Soshangane of the Gaza Empire which controlled parts of Mozambique and Zimbabwe during the 1800s on Vocal here: https://vocal.media/fiction/magic-mirrors-and-dancing-lights
You can read the limericks about lockdown I submitted on Vocal here:

Wonderful, Robbie! I love the word “peeping” folks from other countries use more frequently than peeking. Funny how that works! Great pics of your kids peeping out and of course the wildlife. Great tie-in to your book and videos! Enjoy your week!

Hi Terri, I know I wasn’t sure which word you’d used. Peeping is more common in this context here. I enjoyed looking for these pictures.

I love those original pictures, of tribes before civilization took over. They are precious. I once reviewed a book about the disappearing culture of the Bunyoro, in Africa. They actually contacted me afterwards to thank me for shedding light on their world.

Hi Jacqui, how nice that the tribe contacted you. I like to share some information about southern African history in my stories.

I found your short story quite affecting. Was the disease smallpox?

Hi Liz, yes it was. It came from the Portuguese settlers and it killed a great number of people. That being said, Soshangane later sold people from conquered tribes into slavery to the Portuguese which is dreadful.

Wow, Robbie, what a trifecta of offerings! The whimsical photos, your ultra-powerful story, and the humorous limericks about the drawback of devices. Wide-ranging stuff!

Thank you, Dave. The lockdowns already seem so surreal, as if they never happened. I am glad I wrote poems and made cakes to help me remember those weird days.

That elephant is magnificent!
And that’s an excellent and universal story. Power and greed. (K)

Hi Kerfe, yes, a very sad story. It is awful how kings everywhere sold their own people into slavey.

You’ve been busy. Love the photos. They cover a variety, but they’re all good pics.

Yes, but these are things that aren’t as demanding and focused as writing a full length novel. I am nowhere with that sort of writing at the moment.

The photo of the elephant is priceless. It would be adorable, framed, and hung in a child’s room.

HI Bernadette, it is a lovely one and I wrote a poem about it for my book, Lion Scream. I had to share the wonderful as well as the bleak.

Who ever thought an elephant could peek, but you have proof?! I take it back about living comfortably in all of those houses. Houses that welcome children would work better for me! 🙂
