Last week I went to Olives and Plates Wits Cub and Conference Centre to celebrate the promotions of a few colleagues. Wits (University of the Witwatersrand) is the university my son attends and is also where my husband studied.
The restaurant and campus are beautiful and these are a few pictures.

I don’t know what this building is but it had a curious wall design

I liked this statue

They look like magnificent, proud doors (well, except for the modern, glass one, but that’s more practical!).

That modern building was interesting for me. I also liked the statue. Thanks, Priscilla.

I much prefer the traditional architecture to the cubbyhole building.

I like both styles, Liz. The old architecture makes you feel like you are stepping back in time.

I too like that bottom statue. I dropped it into Google, thinking it would tell me what it was. No joy.

Hi Jacqui, I also tried to find the new building with no luck. I’ll try to go back and take more pictures next year.

Lovely pictures of a lovely building! The second building is interesting, but I prefer the older one with its stucco and wood and paned windows.

Hi D. That older building is very typical of South African colonial architecture.

That definitely is an unsual wall design, Robbie. Are those windows in each square? They look like they’re different color tones. Maybe it’s pretty from the inside where the light comes in. I also like those statues. I bet it was nice to visit the university where your son studies and where your husband went 🙂

Hi Barbara, it was very nice. I will try and find out more about that building. I never went to a proper university so I didn’t have this sort of experience of campus life. I studied correspondence.

You’re welcome, Robbie. There’s something about the campus that’s welcoming, on top of being prestigious. That’s what makes it special.

HI Diana, I’m glad you enjoyed these pictures. I can’t believe I’ve only got one more Thursday Doors post left for this year and then we are away.

A vacation or a staycation? Either way, some time to relax would be wonderful. Enjoy.

HI Diana, we are going to the UK for two weeks so that my mom can visit her sister and two brothers who still live in her home town. We’ll do a bit of touring in the area too. I am then taking some more time as a staycation because I’m feeling very exhausted after this past year. A horrible work year and Michael’s illness has drained me a bit.

That sounds wonderful. 2022 was a tough year for so many people I know, and taking a break is essentail. I hope you go offline and really relax.

University and college campus’ architecutre can be delightfully varied. I visited my old community college a few years back… but we didn’t go on campus. And some of the buildings looked to be in disrepair…

That is a pity. I did my degree via correspondence so I didn’t have a campus life at all.

Both my hubby and I did local – so no dorm experience here.
