Our base, during our recent short vacation when we visited the Cradle of Mankind was Kloofzig Lodge & Spa. You can learn more about it here: https://guvonhotels.co.za/kloofzicht-lodge/
I can’t tell you anything about the spa as those aren’t my scene and I didn’t visit it, but the food, accommodation, and surroundings were splendid.

There is a restful earthiness about spas with lots of stone. Lovely doors.

Thank you, Jacqui. I enjoyed this lodge which is only 35 minutes away from home. I was pleased not to have a long car trip there and back.

That is nice. I haven’t been to a spa in ages!

I’ve never been in a spa. I am allergic to everything.

Yikes! Stay away then. The soaps and scents–not good.

Interesting architecture. I’d like to take a vacation at such a lodge and spa. I’m glad you could do that, Robbie.

Thanks, Miriam. I’m glad we had this break before the boys went back to school for this last term.

It always helps to have a getaway in between, Robbie. That’s a way to take care of ourselves.

Hi Jim, we didn’t really relax. It was my springboard for our visits to Sterkfontein and Maropeng as well as the two animal sanctuaries. It was a nice base for our trip.

it was probably nice to have such a base to operate from and go back to at the end of the day…

Hi Lauren, that is very exciting. I’m hoping we’ll get a proper holiday in December. We haven’t had one for 18 months, only a few weekends away. I’m glad you liked these pictures.

A pool and a lake!! I like the image of the reeds. I know there is a name for that plant… but I can’t recall it right now. The fluff of it is supposed to be as good as bird down for insulation. But I’m not sure why it never caught on. I only read about it. One head of that plant can fluff up to fill a bag – so I read somewhere.
We might just take a few days local by the ocean soon. But we’ll see. Hoping out December trip doesn’t get canceled.

WE are hoping for the same with regards to our December holidays, Jules. The medical fraternity are threatening a fourth wave of Covid here in South Africa. I didn’t know about the use of the fluff from that reed. Interesting.
