Drawn towards the flames
Mesmerized by the bright lights
Flits the social butterfly
Naïve and unsuspecting
Dancing towards fiery death

Minlovemisery posts very intriguing pictures, Jacqui. My mind seems to bend towards the complex and unusual. I find writing poems for pictures like this one much easier than a straight forward picture.

That is a very disturbing image. Your tanka is a cautionary tale for the social butterfly for sure. Well done!

The seduction is tempting, but as you note, it can be deadly. (K)

Thank you, Jessica. My dark humour strikes again! Michael told me he doesn’t want to marry someone like me because my humour is too dark. Then he told me I was the most beautiful mother in the world. Hmmm!!!!

I’m reading a biography of a politically social butterfly, and this fits him so perfectly! I think you’ve hit it on the nose.

Thank you, H. I am glad I am more of a Charlotte the spider sort of person – giggle. Mind you, if you’ve read James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl, a spider isn’t a great creature to be either.

I’ve read James and the Giant Peach, but it’s been so long! I do remember that spider, though.

Thank you, Miriam. I see Colleen has a wonderful photograph for her challenge this week. I’ve written a poem for that too. I always find poetry easier to write when I am on holiday.

Yes, holidays give our mind a break on some routine, and insights into other things. Nice poem, Robbie.
