Kim‘s prompt was to choose one of the basic four elements and explore it. You can read other entries here: https://dversepoets.com/2025/02/25/tuesday-poetics-the-four-elements-2/
I was away in the bush with limited wifi access this week. I did manage to read this prompt, and I wrote this American cinquain (2/4/6/8/2) while bouncing around in the back of the safari vehicle.
Marvelous earth
Shared earth
Inhabited
By numerous creatures
Each with unique adaptions to
Survive
This is a sneak peek at one of the sightings we had:

This is a video of the two lionesses and the two cubs. Look at the one cub playing with mom’s tail (it was windy so that is the sound you can hear).
I love these photos – magical! Beautiful poetry as well!

I can’t imagine what it’s like to be out in the bush with limited Wi-Fi, and to write an American cinquain while bouncing around in the back of a safari vehicle! So well done, Robbie. I love the earth cinquain (she gives us so much), the photos and the video, especially as I am a Leo and lover of everything feline. Those cubs are delightful.

Yes, indeed. I have been scratched by a lion cub and needed a tetanus shot.

HA!
Not to be cute here, but it seems like a scratch of honour!
Still, my new cat clawed me , and I had to get a tetanus shot and was on antibiotics for 3 weeks.
Yes..cats will be cats.
I’m glad your scratch did not fester into something major!

Well, yes. I didn’t mind but I did learn. I didn’t get an infection. I carry a strong antibiotic cream with me when I go to the bush and it worked.

adorable!!! what kinds of precautions do you take to not get eaten in the bush?

The only animal that will attack a vehicle is an elephant. There are strategies to use when an elephant is upset which the good guides know. Generally, animals know that humans are the most dangerous creature and don’t provoke us unless they think their babies are threatened. I’m a lot more scared of people than I am of animals.

Hmmmm…. Would absolutely love to go but my dear husband is unbelievably attractive to bugs, plus his skin over produces histamine… will have to think through. Thanks for info. Are the guides available expensive?
LikeLike
It depends which reserve you go too. Sabi SAnd is expensive, others are less so and there are a variety of camps with different pricing. We usually go to Madikwe Game Reserve which has better priced lodges and camps.
