Frank’s d’Verse challenge today is as follows:
Satisfy your thirst for seasonal color! Write a haibun that alludes to either Fall foliage or Spring blossoms.
You can join in here: https://dversepoets.com/2024/10/21/haibun-monday-10-21-24-fall-foliage-or-spring-blossoms/
The veterans
The twin lines waver down both sides of the street. Aging sentinels attired in their uniforms of jacaranda blue, sport polished silver buttons which sparkle brightly in the spring sunshine.
A gentle breeze shakes the branches releasing a shower of purple confetti. A nearby bird bursts into excited courtship song.
The environment pays tribute to these revered spring veterans.
Aging sentinels
Smart in jacaranda blue
Silver buttons shine
And, of course, there are pictures:

A lovely poem and love the trees, what a wonderful colour.

Hi Jo, I find all trees hard to photograph. There is always a car or pedestrian in the way. I do love the colours of the jacaranda.

Thank you, Pat. I do love the jacarandas and we won’t have them for ever. No new jacarandas may be planted now as they take to much water from the underground reserves. These trees are not indigenous to South Africa.

The Jacaranda trees are magnificent! I fell in love with the first pic you ever sent me. (for AG&HG)
YES, lighting is a huge study. It used to drive me crazy how much time the DOP would be given to light a shot for 1 scene in a movie. Then the lighting department would have sucked up all the time and Wardrobe would be running like idiots getting the actors to set…in wrinkled clothes and trying to make them look as best as possible.
Now that I take pics, I get it! Actually, Glad I paid attention to the lighting. It’s helped me.

Hi Resa, light is very important for photography and painting. I am learning, learning about it. It is incredible how the light in these two pictures, taken at the same time on the same day just one photo up the road and one photo down the road, changes the sky and the colour of the trees and blossoms.

Lighting is definitely a study, and a learning process.
It is for sure one of those things where the more you learn, the more you realize how much more there is to learn.
Even just taking a good photo of my drawings is a challenge.

You are right. In fact, taking pictures of drawings is very difficult.

I thought forever that haibun was that goofy ninja man bun. Or a THC infused burger bun. Now I find out it’s poetry…Life is full of anomalies

Haha, Phil, you are very right about this. Haibun is a strange name but there you go.

That purple is beautiful! And I can see how you call them sentinels, with the trees being so tall. Also, I like your description of the blossoms as “purple confetti” when the breeze knocks them loose.

Hi Bjorn, they are probably warm climate trees. They are lovely but people aren’t allowed to plant new ones so they won’t be forever.

Love the lines – vivid, and then the photos. The light sure does have effect the result. They are old and yet so thin?

Yes, these trees are older. However, jacarandas can live for up to 200 years. I imagine these ones are in their late 70s.

Yes, we had an old one but ours seem to be fatter – maybe the soil/climate has an effect?
