Punam is hosting Tuesday’s Fall (in) love d’Verse poetry prompt. We are tasked with writing an a poem about the fall. In South Africa fall is called autumn and we are now in spring. I am a seasonal writer so this is a poem I wrote in April when it was fall here.
You can join in the prompt here: https://dversepoets.com/2024/09/24/poetics-fall-in-love/

Autumn Stage
Autumn cosmos
Transforms the local park
Into a richly decorated stage
The floor artfully draped
With a Persian carpet
In shades of yellow and green
Interwoven with pink and white
The backdrop, an intricate design
Of season worn trees
Still attired in summertime greenery
They dance gently against the azure sky
The main prop – a slowly decomposing tree
Over which the cosmos tumble
In cascades of delicate colours
Heralding the last days
Of aged summer’s mellow light
This poem was first published in Poetry Treasures 4: In Touch With Nature anthology.

There’s nothing quite like the colours of Autumn, is there, Robbie?

Hi Jo, you are right. If autumn wasn’t followed by winter I would love it more 💞

Hi Maggie, I have noticed that poets often have niche topics they like writing about. I rarely write about love.

enjoyed the poem, Robbie and the pics: the standout ones for me were autumn dam and camouflaged lion —

Hi John. It is amazing how the lions virtually disappear in the grass. I am thinking of painting this dam photograph.

Great shots Robbie, you are becoming a very good wildlife photographer.

Thank you, Wayne, I appreciate your comment. I have a good camera now although nothing like the huge lenses the American tourists have.

A lovely poem about the cosmos — and that’s a fitting description of them as a carpet! Also, those are such cool photos of the animals 🙂

My white allysum is still blooming overflowing my front garden. I can see buds ready on my Mums…Once they do bloom I’ll have to remember to cut them back so they can grow and bloom again next spring. I’m sure there is cosmos in my neighborhood… I just don’t have any (yet).
Thanks for your lovely photos. 🙂

Breaks are good. I will take three weeks over December which is our summer holiday. No, these videos are from my trip last month. I came back to my aunt in hospital so never finished my uploads. I still have a few more to upload.

Oh, yes uploads can wait when you have more important things to tend to like family.

Hi Jennie, it’s difficult for me to think of autumn during spring. I love September to December with spring and all the Christmas things to plan and enjoy. I’ve already go a design for my gingerbread house and I’m planning a tiny birdbath and some birds in the garden.
