Roberta Writes – d’Verse Quadrille #205 – A Jar Full of Poems #poetry

Monday’s d’Verse challenge is hosted by De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo

Let your muse out of the jar, and scribble us a poem of precisely 44 words, not counting the title, and using some form of the word jar. Then head out into the blogosphere to visit some of the finest poets on the ’net. And don’t forget: the Quadrille door is ajar all week, and multiple poems are welcome!

The Great Escape

I only found the jar later

Tipped over, it’s top lay asunder

How did it happen? I wondered

What strange intervention

Facilitated the great escape

Of a dozen cheerful crickets

They found the bathroom cupboard

Entirely to their liking

And formed a jolly choir

Just in case you aren’t familiar with the delightful sound of crickets, you can listen to this video. Crickets are nocturnal.

      1. On the evenings it has been perfect outside, I can’t open my window to sleep. They make me absolutely crazy! (I don’t know why they didn’t bug me when camping… maybe there were less?)

          1. The closer to the house, the louder they are. Must be the reverb against the house 😉 It’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!!

    1. Hi Dave, I saw the word jar and this poem came. All I had to do was write it down. Most of my poetry is actually like this. It just comes, fully formed, into my head. It’s hard to explain and I don’t know how it is for other poets, but it sort of writes itself.

  1. A jolly choir of crickets. Love it, Robbie. Cricket song is a love or hate thing I think. I love the sound, and when one gets in the house it is supposed to be good luck. And there is Jiminy Cricket of course 🙂
