For this, my third Story Empire post, I’m diving a bit deeper into some of the writing decisions I’ve had to make for my own historical writing. My current approach to writing historical fiction is based on trial and error and a lot of rewriting.

‘The Pit and the Pendulum’ is one of my favourite Poe stories; my fave novel based on an actual event is “slaughterhouse 5” about the bombing of Dresden which I’m about to read again. It will be interesting to read the opening paragraphs of your novel, to get a feel for what the rest of the work will be like; I wish you loads of stamina and inspiration for your writing journey 🙂

Hi John, I also enjoy The Pit and the Pendulum but The telltale heart is my favourite Poe story. The Sleeper is my favourite Poe poem. I have Slaughterhouse 5 as an audiobook.i haven’t read it yet.

Excellent post. Though I haven’t delved into historical fiction much yet, this is a dilemma that I’ve already been pondering over.
