Dominates
Arid bushveld
Sucking up moisture
Red dust accentuates
his violent rays; Giving

Each a badge of regal dominance
Ensuring slaves remain subjugated

Sun fun
Animals gather at watering holes
Gulping great drafts of cooling liquid
Elephants rubbing shoulders with
giraffes, rhinos and zebras
Tolerating sharing
Water sprays upward

One for the road:

Excellent poem. Wonderful photos. Not much better than a good mud bath. I love the Cheetah.

Hi Timothy, we had the most incredible sightings. We had that cheetah right next to the vehicle. It was amazing.

I enjoyed the photos and the poetry. That yellow rose is particularly pretty!

Hi Vera, that rose has an interesting colour. I like the contrast of textures between the rose bud and the seed pod in the pink rose one.

A trifecta of terrific! Each poem fits each group of photos perfectly. As I am partial to the elephants, my ears are flapping hello to them. 🙂

“Sun King” and “Sun Fun” are quite a sobering/lighter pair of poems, Robbie! And “grayt”/”greyt” elephant photos!

Hi Dave, Madikwe is near the Botswana border and it is semi desert there. Hot sun is the order of the day 🌞

I think the mud protects the elephants’ skin from the sun?

Yes, it is like a sun screen. It also protects them from insects.

Gorgeous poetry and images, Robbie! Love the sunset through the textures of the bush, but the elephants taking their mudbaths stole the show–talk about textures! The cheetah is amazing! So nice to see your post for Sunday Stills!

Such beautiful photos and poems, Robbie! So what kind of season is that then? I thought you might be spring, but it sounds hot. We are fall, but I have no idea how to write about “cold dew” when it’s 100 degrees out, and I am wearing a sun dress in the house in air conditioning and still sweating.

HI Luanne, South Africa has spring in that we get lots of flowers. From a heat perspective, it goes from 0 to 100 in a few days. We don’t really have distinct seasons. It’s more like 2 months of winter and 10 months of summer. We are in great need of rain which should be starting soon. There was a heat wave last week.

The whole post merges together so well. The poetry sells the photos and the photos sell the poetry. I dabbled with a similar line in one of my books a couple of weeks ago, only mine involves sound effects and videos.

Wonderful poems and images, Robbie. I could feel the heat in their first two. I’d be cooling off in the mud with the elephants. 🙂 What an amazing thing to witness in your travels. Thanks for sharing the fun photos and video. The roses are a gentle counterpoint, and the final photo of the cheetah is a treat. Hugs.

You had mentioned on another post about the heat drawing all the animals to the watering hole. What a great opportunity for photos. I’m envious!

This area is very dry during winter so if you get a hot dat, all the animals flock to the water.

Hi JoAnna, thank you. The first two poems written about our trip to Madikwe Game Reserve. It is semi desert in that region so very dry now before the rains come. The last poem was written about my garden at home. We have been watering and our rain has at least started.
