Roberta Writes – Dolphin Display, an acrostic poem and St Lucia, SA ocean scenes #poetry #oceanscenes

This poem was going to be for this week’s W3 prompt but then I realised I hadn’t followed the instructions properly. My 1st and 3rd and 2nd and 4th lines don’t rhyme. I like what I’ve created so I decided not to change it and just publish it outside of the challenge. The prompt word is Beach Balls and I’ve used a syllabic count of 5/8/6/10/6 for each stanza.

Dolphin Display

Beautiful creatures

Elegantly pair with water

Agilely performing

Complicated aerobics to music

How high they jump and twist

***

Breathlessly we watch

Amazed at their dexterity

Lithesome bodies gliding

Luxuriating in the rapt attention

Sensational showing

These are a few ocean scenes from our recent trip to St Lucia. We visited in July which is our coldest month of the year. This is the beach at Cape Vidal.

I was interested in the fact that there is a lot of black mixed in with the white sea sand. The black is titanium and not oil as I had originally thought.

  1. A gorgeous day Robbie…this beach looks much like Cayucos, on the Pacific Ocean in central California…beauty is all around us if we take the time to see it and appreciate it – you do that and take it one more step, you create art from it!

  2. The poem might not have fit the specific formula, Robbie, but it conveys so much. And I love your photos. It amazes me that in July (your coldest month of the year) people are walking in shorts on the beach!

  3. Those are fun and clever poems and nice photos. Incidently I learned a few days ago what an acrostic poem is, in French class, and I wrote my first poem about in French.

  4. I quite like your poem, Robbie. It’s fab.
Yes, I’ve been to St. Lucia so I know what you mean about the sand.
I seem to remember Barbados having the pristine white sand.

Still, my fave is the Bahamas. It’s a bit windy at times, but it’s only a 3 hour flight fromToronto.
Nassau is great, lots to do.

  5. A beautiful poem, Robbie. I’m glad you decided to leave it as is. Dolphins are amazing to watch and you captured their movement with ease. The St. Lucia beach looks beautiful even if it’s the coldest month there. ❤ ❤

  6. Thanks for sharing your dolphin poem and pictures from Cape Vidal, Robbie. It looks very nice. I looked it up on Google Maps to see where it was exactly – so very far away from us! And I guess that’s the Indian Ocean, not the Atlantic? The sea is so calming- we’re heading to the beach next week. I spent so much time at our New Jersey shore growing up, I miss being near the water. Hope you have a great evening 🙂
