Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. Feel free to join in on the fun by creating your own Thursday Doors post each week and then sharing your link in the comments below, anytime between Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time).
These are some doors from my trip to Auckland and Rotorua in New Zealand in 2016. The depict some of the amazing Maori artwork you will find in both these interesting places.

Great shots. That must have been quite an adventure. New Zealand is a dream destination for me, but soooo darn far 😀

It was a very long trip for us too, Norm. 22 hours of flying. Whew!!! and such bad jetlag. We won’t ever visit again but I was glad we had this opportunity.

Never say never, Robbie!.But 22 hours in an plane would be horrible to me too. Thank you for sharing these wonderful impressions. What a heritage, and how far away it is, its part of this world. Michael

Beautiful shots of the doors, Robbie. We were planning a family vacation to Australia and New Zealand. Now we have to postpone it indefinitely.

I’m sorry, Miriam. We were supposed to leave for the UK today for our annual holiday. There is always next year and things do change.

Hi Mae, last year when we traveled, I specifically photographed doors. The earlier trip pictures, like these, are hit and miss. I am enjoying looking for the pictures.

Amazing shots, Robbie. Though it’s just a hop, skip and a jump away, I haven’t yet been to NZ. Hope to get their one day 🙂

It is a great place to visit, Jessica. I haven’t been to Australia. We went to NZ because my older son was a representative of the South African team for the Kids Lit Quiz which was held in NZ that particular year.

I hear it’s very beautiful. But I hear the same of South Africa too 🤗

They are quite different, Jessica. NZ is green and lush and South Africa is quite dry with great sweeping plains of grasslands.

Maybe one day I’ll get to see both

It was a great trip, John. Have you been to New Zealand?

I haven’t Robbie…honestly, it’s low on my list because in many ways it’s like the Pacific Northwest where I grew up, so it doesn’t have the same exotic appeal to me…although I read a book about ti, so there must be SOME interest!

We went because Gregory participated in the Kid’s Lit Quiz which took place in NZ that year. I am really glad we all took the opportunity to go to this lovely country. The jet lag was horrendous though with a time difference of 10 hours.

the worst jet lag I had was from Sydney…the upside down nature of it makes it worse…you leave in the afternoon but arrive home the same morning!

Yes, I find the jet lag worse going backwards in time too.

The carvings are fascinating! I’ll bet each one tells a story of some kind.

I would think so, Liz. My writing friend, Jennifer S Alderson, wrote a book about Asmat artifacts from Papua and described the art which seemed quite similar.

Hi Carla, strangely, it was never on my bucket list. I like Europe and had never thought about going to NZ. My son was part of the South African team that participated in the final of the Kids Literature Quiz in 2016, that was how we came to go there and I’m glad we grabbed the opportunity.

Oh dear, I lost some pictures like that too and now I download them onto an external hard drive to make sure they are safe. I loved Rotorua, so interesting and beautiful.
